Governments in Europe have put keeping the economy functioning ahead of people’s health and their lives. One year after the outbreak of the pandemic, the UK has the highest death toll with 150,000 dead, a third wave of infection is gathering pace in France and Germany, and activists in Ireland have been campaigning for an all-island strategy. We can’t allow diplomatic threats over vaccines in Europe to risk people’s lives.

The UK government and those of other wealthy countries are holding back vaccines, cutting aid budgets and keeping countries shackled with debt. It’s unjust, and will prolong the pandemic. Campaigning against vaccine nationalism and for health solidarity across borders is urgent.
